Christmas is the time of year when we look forward to coming home and experiencing the "feast of love" together with our families and friends. In festively decorated rooms, at a richly laid table and usually with numerous gifts. But what does home actually mean for fellow people without shelter? Around 300 people in Düsseldorf live and sleep for the most part on the streets, meals are meager, and there is often no contact with family and friends. The reasons for this are complex and often distressing.
With a joint campaign, the #TUESmovement, media partner Ströer, snoopstar | Augmented Reality, the GuteNachtBus and Düsseldorf's Mayor Dr. Stephan Keller as patron, want to inspire and motivate the city's citizens to turn their eyes to the lives of homeless people. On numerous digital media screens of Ströer, the message "Christmas at home is best. If you have one. - Give a Merry Christmas now." will be carried into the Düsseldorf city area. The campaign is flanked in public spaces by a virtual Advent calendar, implemented by the company snoopstar. A printed postcard functions as an Advent calendar and activates participation in the fundraising campaign. With a cell phone and the snoopstar app, the printed card comes to life with the help of augmented reality. Rescanned every day, users receive new video messages from citizens of Düsseldorf . Ströer subsidiary Edgar Freecards is helping to distribute the cards. The campaign aims to give citizens the opportunity to buy a Christmas gift box for a homeless people for 10 euros. The box is a small contribution to give people on the street a feeling of Christmas and to show them that they are not forgotten. The website www.weihnachten-zuhause.com was set up for this purpose. This way the donation contribution of 10 euro can be transferred easily. 1,000 boxes are to be generated altogether over donations, which are then delivered in time for Christmas to the emergency sleeping places in Düsseldorf and to the surrounding cities/communities.
"I am very pleased about this campaign, which I am happy to support with my patronage. It's impressive how many partners, sponsors and, above all, citizens are participating here on a voluntary basis and working together creatively to give people without shelter some Christmas cheer for the festive season," says Dr. Stephan Keller, Mayor of the state capital Düsseldorf.
"Ströer is aware of its sociopolitical responsibility and is supporting the initiative again this year with its wide-reach media in the public area," says Alexander Stotz, CEO Ströer Media Deutschland GmbH. "We are thus creating awareness for the initiative and its important cause. I am convinced that, with the help of the campaign, we will also be able to make many Düsseldorfers aware of the situation of homeless people and motivate them to support the 'Christmas at Home' campaign," says Alexander Stotz, CEO Ströer Media Deutschland GmbH.
