Ströer has been nominated for the German Corporate Sustainability Award, which is being awarded this year together on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) and the World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF) to particularly exemplary companies in their sectors.
A jury of experts has chosen Ströer as one of the pioneers of transformation in the "Advertising & PR" sector. The award ceremony will take place in Düsseldorf on November 23, 2023.
At the German Sustainability Award, independent expert juries with expertise and understanding of the context decide on the pioneers based on sustainability profiles. The initial assessment was based on the companies' published sustainability information, which was submitted with the help of AI, and the expertise of the jurors. The companies selected were those that have made effective, successful, and exemplary contributions to transformation in their sector and have become or should become role models.
The nomination for the German Sustainability Award is confirmation of the Ströer Group's numerous initiatives. With our sustainability strategy, we combine our business strategy with ecological approaches from the areas of environment and climate protection, social initiatives, and corporate governance aspects. The concept of sustainability can only be meaningfully implemented as a long-term, strategic pillar and in direct relation to our own core business. Accordingly, the climate strategy was further developed in the reporting year 2022: On the one hand, specific objectives for the coming years were formulated for the focal areas of innovation, reduction, and compensation. On the other hand, with a view to the United Nations' 1.5-degree goal, "Net-zero by 2050" was defined as the overarching ambition for Ströer. The previous goal of achieving climate neutrality for the entire business by 2025 will continue to be maintained and has been integrated into the further developed climate strategy.
Focusing on climate change, we are continuing to develop our portfolio of sustainable solutions in a targeted manner with a view to increasing efficiency and saving energy. The focus of improving the environmental friendliness of the outdoor advertising portfolio is the successive digitization of media carriers in public spaces (DOOH). Ströer's digital communications infrastructure in Germany is powered by 100 percent certified green electricity.
In addition to advancements in energy and climate, there were significant developments in the social and governance areas in 2022. For example, the Ströer Social Charta was published in July 2022. It formulates the values according to which Ströer acts as an international group of companies, obligatory for the entire Group. Responsibility for products was also documented in a mandatory manner in 2022 with the principles of advertising ethics and the journalistic principles.
The many advances in the area of sustainability are also reflected in the assessment by independent sustainability ratings, where Ströer was able to improve significantly.
The current fourth sustainability report, which was published at the end of March 2023, provides an overview of Ströer's sustainability strategy and covers the four sub-areas of Environment, Employees, Business Partners & Society and Governance. The report shows the developments, progress and focus areas for each of these areas and was prepared in accordance with the internationally recognized standards of the Global Reporting Initiative.
