Since mid-September, a green roof has adorned the advertising pillars in Erlangen. Mayor Florian Janik, Economic Officer Konrad Beugel as well as Stefan Helbig (Managing Director Ströer Deutsche Städte Medien GmbH) and Freya Amann (Head of Municipal Affairs and Urban Development Bavaria, Ströer Deutsche Städte Medien GmbH) from Ströer witnessed at the corner of Nürnberger-/Sedanstraße when the last of a total of 44 advertising pillars got a plant cover put on.
As a contractual partner in Erlangen, Ströer is responsible, among other things, for the marketing and management of advertising pillars and bus shelters. Heat-resistant greenery with robust sedum plants was planted on the surfaces, which measure around two square meters. The greened areas not only provide habitats for insects and bees, they can also store rainwater.
"Climate protection is an immensely big challenge, not only in our city. These small climate islands are one contribution among many. But especially in densely built-up inner cities, it is important to seize every opportunity for more greenery," said Mayor Florian Janik, referring to the city's support program for green roofs and facades.
"Ströer pushes local, sustainable change with smart communication and infrastructure solutions. The goal is to support cities in resilient, environmentally friendly urban development. Greening concepts are part of Ströer's sustainability strategy and municipal cooperation with the city of Erlangen," says Alexander Stotz, CEO Ströer Media Deutschland GmbH.
