Not only bus stops in Bonn have a green roof. A green roof has now also been installed on the first advertising pillar near the bus stop Beethovenhalle. The sustainable pillar also attracts bees to an insect hotel. With this initiative, Ströer, the City of Bonn and Stadtwerke Bonn Bus und Bahn are pushing the Smart City partnership. Two more advertising pillars receive their plant cover and the bee shelters at the Belderberg / corner of Kapuzinerstraße location and on Rabinstraße near Thomas-Mann-Straße.
"Ströer triggers local, sustainable change with smart communication and infrastructure solutions. The goal is to support cities in resilient, environmentally friendly urban development. Greening concepts are part of Ströer's sustainability strategy and municipal cooperation with the Federal City and Stadtwerke Bonn", says Alexander Stotz, CEO Ströer Media Deutschland GmbH.
For Georg Bechthold, Head of Communications and Marketing at Stadtwerke Bonn, the green pillar is the logical continuation of Stadtwerke Bonn's climate commitment: "Our e-buses run on green electricity. They drive by bus stops with green roofs. The advertising pillar with plant cover and insect hotel expands the sustainable portfolio of Bonn's sustainable advertising media".
Sedum has been planted at the bus stops, and other plant species such as houseleek, leek and yarrow are used on the columns for even more biodiversity in the city. The insect hotels are individual nesting aids for insects and wild bees. The needs of different insect species for nesting structures and places of retreat were taken into account as well as regional production - because the hotels are made in cooperation with social institutions.
